Styling the Bangs
My mom gave me some new bangs a few weeks back, and ever since then I’ve been completely obsessed. Although I did come to the realization that I have to actually style my hair every day now.. (coming from the girl who threw it up in a wet ponytail most times). I’m definitely no pro here, but there is one thing I love- and that’s the feeling of a fresh new do. Something about a cut or color is a total confidence booster, especially during these drab winter months.
You’re probably thinking who on earth is lucky enough to have their mom be their own personal hairstylist?! She is always more than willing to pull out her scissors and offer up a new look whenever the time comes, even living miles apart from each other! Plus, she nails it every time and I am forever grateful. Thank you mom. 😉 On the other hand, my friend Kassi does hair for a living and I’ve loved going to her for a few colors here and there. Surprisingly, I’ve only stepped foot in to an actual hair salon three times my entire life.. say what? Crazy, I know! I feel so fortunate to have these two (for reasons other than hair also).
So, with my new do, I had some fun styling it a few different ways the other day that were out of the ordinary for me- aside from the occasional hat. Headband? Check. Stylish bandana? Check check. Brushed blow out? Check, check, and check!
I started out with a classic blow dry and used the Boar Bristle Round Brush, recommended by my friend Kassi (a professional stylist) for some added volume and curl. Kassi says, “I like ones with boar bristles in them because they’re better for the hair” and “2-2 1/2 in would be best, medium size round brushes are great for bangs!” I can attest that I absolutely love the way my hair feels after I blow dry with the brush, they perch just perfectly above my eye level (can’t stand bangs in the eyes!) and stay soft all day long.
Next, I used my trusty 1.25 Inch Hot Tools Curling Iron (lasts forever!) to wrap 1 inch sections of hair around the wand. A little personal preference of mine: I never divide my hair in sections to curl! I always keep it down and if I miss a few pieces, they’re usually underneath which actually blends it perfectly (plus the process is much quicker).
Since my hair is also very flat, I’m still learning new ways to give it a little extra volume all while keeping the process quick and stylish. Do you have any other fun tips for styling bangs? If you have new bangs, or are looking for some creative ways to up your do’s in the morning, here’s some fun styles with pieces I already had right in my closet. Which one of these looks is your favorite? Enjoy the awkward (and very close up) smiling photographs.. 🙂
