Sounds of Summer

Yesterday afternoon, I curled up in to my bed for a {much needed} afternoon nap. The windows were open in the bedroom, and the sun was barely popping through underneath the wall of clouds. I heard the birds chirping somewhere nearby, a sound that would normally go in one ear out the other.. But for some reason as soon as I heard the array of singing, I curled up tighter under my blanket and laid there thinking of all the sounds of summer I take for granted. It’s sometimes difficult for me to fully appreciate the rainy weather we constantly consume- since earl gray mornings aren’t necessarily mood lifters for your days. And it’s in times like these, that I forget about the simple sounds of chirping birds during the colder months..
There are so many wonderful sounds of summer that correspond to fond memories. A crackling fire? Making s’mores of course. Laughter? Probably remembering a time I stayed up too late outside with friends. Sprinklers? Watering the fresh cut grass (which is a also unmistakably one of my favorite scents). Growing up on a farm, I may be a little bias to certain nostalgic references, but I’m a sucker for these sounds. I like to think that memories such as these are what shaped my personality. Every sound correlates to a memory, whether I think about it frequently or remember it over time. Traditions and interests like these are what I want to carry on forever, and carry in to the lives of our future children..
Each year there will always be new memories and new experiences, but the classic sounds of summer we all know and love will never squander.
What are some of your favorite sounds of summer? Anything that comes to mind or take you back to your childhood? Here are a few more of my personal favorites…
