Golden Girl (And What Surprised Me Most on Getting a Puppy)
November 28th once was a regular day, now it’s a special occasion that will continuously fill our hearts with joy…
My golden girl, my Maggie Mae, Magilicious, Mags, and Floppy Mags. (Sometimes Sam even sings “Magilicious Fergalicious” to her as she stares back with confusion). It was in mid February when we came across a listing for Maggie. We knew we wanted a puppy, but weren’t sure when the right time was, or the type we were looking for. Going in to meet her we thought we would play it by ear (we all know that’s impossible to do). Immediately, we fell in love with her fluffy fur, rich golden notes, and eyes that stare directly in to yours. That day was a special one for us, it was the start of forming our family, and shaping our beloved new home.
Maggie has undoubtedly changed our lives these past (4 ish months) of owning her. Of course my husband and I both had pets, and plenty of dogs growing up, all in which we loved dearly. But since the moment we brought home her sweet little face, I knew this dog would be here for the major life changes sooner or later to come. She’ll be here in our first house (and maybe second). She’ll be there when we really start a family, and she’ll be there (literally waiting by the door) wagging her tail and crying with excitement whenever we return.
What surprised me the most however, wasn’t her love, or cheeriness, or even her loyalty. What truly, I mean truly surprised me was how one single life can make a new place feel less empty, but rather, whole.
Sam and I loved our new piece of the puzzle in life together. But we knew we were missing something in this unfamiliar area, and bare new home. Who knew a massive dog bed, dirty paw prints by the back door, and endless toys scattered around the living room would be the comforting piece we needed…
Maggie brings us together more than we ever thought possible. She’s the glue to our home, and the start of the life Sam and I are meant to live. Her personality leaves us giggling to each other and sharing funny stories throughout the day. But also growing a little more backbone when she may dig a shiny new plant directly out of the ground. Here are some additional “Maggie trademarks” that leave us smiling from ear to ear each day..
Our daily walks, and when she forces a tennis ball in my face (jumping back and forth on my lap) to play with her. It’s as if she’s silently screaming, “take a break already!”
The way she snuggles up and lays her face flat on either Sam or I’s while sleeping.
The times when she plops in front of the TV to watch a show next to us. She likes to wind down too after a long day, ya know?
There are endless stories, but to spare time, I will leave it here. Please feel free to follow along on Instagram for more hilarious photos and videos of Maggie Mae (she’s a superstar over there).
We love you Maggie, thank you for being our golden girl forever.
