Do or Don’t: A “Gender Reveal”
A recent question I’ve received from family and friends is whether or not we have plans for a big “gender reveal.” I assumed those who asked meant a party of some sort (or video on social media) but despite this growing trend, Sam and I decided that it’s not really for us. However, we still didn’t want the experience to lack sentimentality completely..
After a night of tossing and turning, Sam and I walked in to our 20 week appointment this morning. AKA: the appointment where we find out the sex. We decided to take a slightly different approach, and asked the tech to hand it to us in a written note. Sam held it tight the rest of the appointment (I asked if I could put it in my purse and he refused to let go). We drove home, opened it with Maggie, called family, then went out for a celebratory lunch. The only problem with the whole ordeal: our doctor’s office is 30-minutes away! Talk about a long car ride…
Sam was initially worried that he wouldn’t make it that long (and honestly, I was too). BUT, as anxious as we both were, the surprise was SO well worth it. Luckily I found time to prop up my big bulky camera to record the entire reaction.
I’m curious- what are your thoughts on doing a gender reveal? I have found some tasteful ones, likes this adorable moment at one couple’s wedding. However, the colorful balloons and pink/ blue smoke aren’t really our forte. Leave your thoughts in the comments below or over on my Instagram!
